Training Opportunity!
Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS’s) Strategic Interventions is pleased to offer this 2-day workshop on Oct 9 & 10 for professionals working in fields related to mental health, Frontline workers, social work, law enforcement, healthcare, and related fields to support victims and survivors effectively.
This comprehensive workshop provides a decolonial and anti-oppression theoretical framework and an in-depth exploration of safety planning and risk assessment for survivors of intimate partner, domestic and sexualized violence, integrating a focus on high-risk cases and systemic challenges. Through interactive presentations, detailed case studies, and collaborative group activities, participants will develop advanced skills in evaluating risks, crafting personalized safety plans, and addressing the complexities of abusive dynamics and systemic oppression.
The workshop offers a dual approach: it examines the multifaceted nature of safety planning, including institutional and systemic barriers, while also delving into power dynamics and lethality assessments in high-risk situations. Participants will learn to identify and navigate the unique challenges faced by survivors, incorporating trauma and violence-informed, decolonial and anti-oppression analysis into their work.
Learning Outcomes:
- Advanced Risk Assessment: Gain expertise in identifying and evaluating risks at individual, family, and systemic levels, with a focus on high-risk scenarios.
- Effective Safety Planning: Learn to create detailed, personalized safety plans that address immediate and long-term safety needs, incorporating evidence-based practices.
- Lethality Assessment: Develop skills to conduct thorough lethality assessments and understand the multiple layers of power and control in abusive relationships.
- Systemic Challenges: Explore strategies to navigate and address systemic barriers and institutional challenges that impact survivors.
- Trauma and Violence Informed and Decolonial and Anti-oppression Approaches: Apply trauma and violence-informed and decolonial and anti-oppression analysis to support victims-survivors including Black, Indigenous, racialized, immigrant/refugee victim-survivors.
- Collaborative Strategies: Enhance abilities to advocate across various sectors to support effective institutional and systemic responses.
This workshop is ideal for practitioners, front-line workers and community outreach who seek to deepen their expertise in supporting victim-survivors of intimate partner violence and related issues.
