Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS’s) Strategic Interventions is pleased to offer this workshop on Sept 18 & 19 for professionals in mental health, social work, education, healthcare, and other fields where ethical decision-making in helping relationships is critical.
This workshop delves into the ethical principles and dilemmas that arise in the context of helping relationships, with a specific focus on the complexities of gender, race, colonization, and immigration. Through a blend of interactive lectures, case study evaluations, and group discussions, participants will explore the foundational ethical frameworks that guide professional conduct in fields such as mental health, social work, and counselling. The session focuses on understanding the ethical responsibilities and challenges professionals face when building and maintaining helping relationships amid these complex socio-cultural dynamics. Participants will examine real-world scenarios to identify ethical issues, consider the implications of various decisions, and develop skills for ethical decision-making. The workshop emphasizes the importance of maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and competence in addressing the specific needs related to race and gender while navigating the complexities of ethical dilemmas in a colonial context. Attendees will leave the workshop with enhanced awareness and practical tools for upholding ethical standards in their professional practice.
