Training Opportunity!

Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS’s) Strategic Interventions is pleased to offer this 2-day workshop on Sept 11 & 12  for professionals working in fields related to mental health, front-line workers, social work, education, law enforcement, and anyone committed to understanding and combating gender-based violence.

This workshop offers an in-depth examination of the theoretical frameworks that shape our understanding of gender-based violence, emphasizing the complexities of gender, race, and the enduring impacts of colonization. Through a combination of interactive lectures, case study analyses, and collaborative group activities, participants will explore the various manifestations of gender-based violence and its intersection with racial and gender identities, power dynamics, and societal norms. The session provides a comprehensive view of the underlying causes and far-reaching impacts of such violence, integrating a critical examination of how historical and colonial legacies perpetuate cycles of violence.

Participants will engage with key theories and models that clarify the systemic nature of gender-based violence and its pervasive effects on individuals and communities. The workshop underscores the importance of integrating decolonial and anti-oppression analysis and provides space for participants to reflect on their perspectives and biases.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will gain practical tools and strategies to effectively address and prevent gender-based violence in their professional practice.
