Training Opportunity!

Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS’s) Strategic Interventions is pleased to offer this 2-day workshop on Nov 20 & 21 for professionals in mental health, social work, peacebuilding, and restorative justice, as well as anyone committed to understanding and addressing the complexities of trauma, community healing, and personal transformation.

We inhabit a fragmented, divisive, and dangerous world. This two day highly experiential workshop will move us gently towards a deeper sense of wholeness and belonging within ourselves, with others, and with our beautiful and troubled planet,  delving into the delicate balance between boundaries and empathetic engagement, between personal and collective healing, and between separation and belonging.

Together we will delve into dynamics at work in our relationships and practices with the people and communities we work with, explore the concepts and relevance of restorative justice principles and practice, and examine the relationship between trauma and ecopsychology, to weave a web of deep and authentic connections that will strengthen our sense of connection while also maintaining professional integrity and self-awareness.

Within this web, patterns of oppression and trauma impact individuals, communities, societies and the very living systems of Earth.  Whether we work as advocates, activists or healers we are exposed to current and ancestral systems that lie at the root of woundedness. An integrative, compassionate and intersectional approach to both ourselves and others is core to this session. It will support us in navigating issues of identity, politics, trauma, and belonging.

This workshop is designed for people working in a wide range of contexts with trauma and recovery, as  well as anyone committed to understanding and addressing the complexities of trauma, community healing, and personal transformation

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understanding our interconnections: Our lives are linked. We will honour our individual uniqueness as we deepen our understanding of interdependent and interconnected systems that we are part of both systems of oppression and the living systems of life.
  • A systemic exploration of the roots of trauma: We will examine the traumatic ancestral histories behind individual and collective trauma, and the complexities of working with diverse populations, including the specific injuries of gender, culture and class.
  • Clarifying boundaries in our work: While boundaries are essential to building safe and restorative relationships with abuse and trauma survivors, as well as in advocacy and activist work, boundaries too often serve as a self-protection that distances us from others. We will explore how we can hold appropriate and healthy boundaries while still maintaining an open and compassionate heart.
  • Learn restorative justice principles and practices: We will develop an understanding of the basic principles of restorative justice and when these principles are appropriate for our work through one case example.
  • Integrate trauma and ecopsychology: The dynamics of oppression injure not only humans but all of life, putting the very future of the planet at risk. Discover how ecopsychology can be integrated into a model of trauma recovery, promoting resilience and a repaired and deepened sense of belonging.
