Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS’s) Strategic Interventions is pleased to offer this 2-day workshop on Oct 23 & 24 for professionals in addiction services, mental health, social work, and anyone interested in holistic, anti-oppressive approaches to recovery

 This workshop introduces participants to a transformative model for self-help and recovery from addiction, emphasizing an anti-oppressive and anti-racist approach. The session delves into the 16 Steps for Discovery and Empowerment, a holistic framework that supports personal growth, healing, and recovery. Through a blend of interactive discussions, reflective exercises, and practical applications, participants will explore each step’s role in fostering self-awareness, empowerment, and resilience. The workshop provides an in-depth understanding of how the 16 Steps approach addresses addiction recovery within the context of social justice, recognizing the impact of systemic oppression and racism on individuals’ experiences. Participants will gain insights into how this model integrates concepts of self-care, community support, and empowerment to promote sustainable recovery and well-being.

By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped with practical strategies to implement the 16 Steps in their personal and professional contexts, supporting individuals on their journey to recovery and self-empowerment.

Learning Outcomes:  

  • Understand the 16 Steps Model: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the 16 Steps for Discovery and Empowerment and its application in recovery from addiction, with a focus on fostering personal growth and resilience.
  • Recognize the Impact of Systemic Oppression: Explore how systemic oppression and racism affect individuals’ experiences and recovery processes and learn to address these challenges within the 16 Steps framework.
  • Apply Anti-Oppressive Approaches: Learn to implement anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices in supporting individuals’ recovery, promoting an inclusive and empowering environment.
  • Enhance Self-Awareness and Empowerment: Develop skills to facilitate self-awareness and empowerment, helping individuals recognize their strengths and build resilience in their recovery journey.
  • Promote Holistic Recovery Strategies: Understand the importance of integrating self-care, community support, and holistic practices into addiction recovery, fostering a comprehensive approach to well-being.
  • Implement Practical Recovery Tools: Gain practical tools and techniques for applying the 16 Steps in various contexts, supporting individuals in their journey toward sustainable recovery and empowerment.
  • Support Sustainable Recovery: Learn strategies to support long-term recovery and personal growth, addressing the multifaceted needs of individuals recovering from addiction.
  • Advocate for Social Justice: Understand the broader systemic issues impacting recovery and learn to advocate for social justice and equity in addiction services and beyond.

This workshop equips participants with the knowledge and skills to support individuals through a transformative recovery journey, emphasizing empowerment, social justice, and holistic well-being.

Registration is $500 per person. For groups of 5 or more, registration is $400 (20% off).
